Get to Know Your Ghyd
Kerry grew up in New England where everything was relatively easily accessible – the mountains, the beach, tiny communities where, quite literally, everyone knew your name, and cities for when a little more anonymity (and culture!) was needed. At the heart of all of her travels, water always seemed to be the destination.
She started guiding for a kayak tour company which took her around the country to different waterways and fostered a sense of stewardship to protect the places we play. After earning a BS in Animal Science from UC Davis, she moved back east and started working for a nonprofit doing whale and marine life research, spending her days on a research vessel in the middle of the Atlantic.
This led her to her current role at 1% for the Planet, a global nonprofit that connects dollars with doers to protect our only home. 1% FTP links businesses that contribute at least 1% of their annual sales with high-impact environmental nonprofits, creating partnerships that protect the planet.
After learning about Ghyd and the unique model rooted in offering an amazing travel experience that gives back, she knew she wanted to help connect individuals looking for an unparalleled adventure with responsibility and local community growth at the forefront of everything they do.
Getting picked up by marine patrol swimming in the Caribbean with a broken ankle and having to defend the fact that I wasn’t a crazy Kenny Chesney-obsessed fan trying to swim to his house.
